EXPORTING GOODS AND PHYTOSANITARY STANDARDS
When exporting goods, you must ensure that your wood packaging materials comply with phytosanitary standards. If your packaging materials are not compliant, they can be refused at the border, or even sent back to their point of origin, which can lead to delays, additional costs, fines and sometimes even prosecution. It is therefore essential to work with an accredited wood packaging manufacturer who uses ISPM 15 approved wood packaging materials for export.
The ISPM 15 standard (International Standard for Phytosanitary Measures No. 15) requires that packaging made of wood or containing wood parts be:
-
heat-treated to eliminate pests;
-
produced by a certified manufacturer;
-
stamped to prove conformity;
-
traceable from the forest to the final place of delivery.
Since requirements vary from country to country, it is best to rely on an expert in export packaging.
